Whether you are teaching a class full of students, presenting an immersive experience to a big crowd at a conference, or showcasing VR demos at a gala event, showing VR experiences to people is exciting, but needs proper preparation.
Here are our top tips for a successful event.
1. Practice makes perfect!
- Just like any show, have a rehearsal beforehand so that you are comfortable with the equipment
- Recruit your friends, family, or close colleagues to try the VR experiences with you as the facilitator, so you get used to handling the equipment and talking about the lab content.
2. Choose the right setup
- Know your location
- Scope it out in advance so you know you will have a place to plug in your laptop and/or charge headsets (if needed).
- Test the wi-fi connection (More on our internet connection speed requirements can be found here)
- Make sure you have any furniture you need, like tables and swivel chairs

3. Make a packing list.
- Some items that will help:
- Extension cords, power towers
-
- Hand sanitizer, wet wipes to clean headsets between use, and microfiber cloths
- Headphones so that the noise from a large crowd will not distract from the immersive experiences (comes in your kit! But you can use your own too.)
- Consider bringing your own wi-fi hotspot in case the public connection isn’t strong or reliable (More on mobile hotspots can be found here)
4. Have fun!
- Many people have never put on a VR headset before!
- You are the expert and will be showing them a whole new world.
- Have confidence in your knowledge and take your time to prepare them and let them know what to expect.
- Take care of yourself!
- Make sure you stay fed and hydrated
- Take breaks when needed and please, wear comfortable shoes!
