Whether you are teaching a class full of students, presenting an immersive experience to a big crowd at a conference, or showcasing VR demos at a gala event, showing VR experiences to people can be tricky!
Here are our top tips for a successful event.
1. Practice makes perfect!
- Just like any show, have a rehearsal beforehand so that you are comfortable with the equipment
- Recruit your friends, family, or close colleagues as participants so you get used to showing the labs to real people
2. Choose the right setup
- Know your location
- Scope it out in advance so you know how many power outlets you have
- Test the wi-fi connection (More on our internet connection speed requirements can be found here)
- Make sure you have any furniture you need, like tables and swivel chairs
3. Make a packing list.
- Some items that will help:
- tape to manage unruly power cords
- extension cords, power towers
- laptop cooling pads to keep your equipment from overheating
- efficient and inexpensive models can be found on Amazon.
- most are plugged in to a USB port on your laptop, so make sure you have enough USB ports
- hand sanitizer, wet wipes to clean headsets between use, and microfiber cloths
- headphones so that the noise from a large crowd will not distract from the immersive experiences
- consider bringing your own wi-fi hotspot in case the public connection isn’t strong or reliable (More on mobile hotspots can be found here)
4. Have fun!
- Many people have never put on a VR headset before!
- You are the expert and will be showing them a whole new world.
- Have confidence in your knowledge and take your time to prepare them and let them know what to expect.
- Take care of yourself!
- Make sure you stay fed and hydrated
- Take breaks when needed and please, wear comfortable shoes!
